This story made me smile (and hopeful)

It just happens that I also thought that driving people around is a great opportunity to make a pitch but this guy proves that you can do so much more.

Stupid laws to stop Uber

As lawmakers push legislation allowing ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft upstate, a group representing those with spinal chord injuries is calling for a mandate requiring all Uber vehicles to be wheelchair accessible.
I wonder if any of them knows how much would it costs to make Toyota Camry wheelchair accessible? Maybe we should let them find out by requiring all lawmakers' vehicles to be wheelchair accessible.

Driving Uber Out of Business

Politicians are doing what they do best, trying to drive us out of the business. How to fight back? We should take a note who votes against us and punish them during elections, and let them know that we do keep scores.

It is interesting that taxi companies and their drivers are fighting hard against Uber but do nothing to improve their service. If you are a RIDER please compare the prices and a level of service between Uber and taxi drivers and if you like Uber more, as many do, please support us.

Bringing Out the Regulatory Wheel Clamps for Uber
...you may not have heard is that similar battles are taking place all over America, including in our home states of Florida and Michigan. In too many cases, the ride-share revolution is running out of gas, not because of lack of customers but because of meddling politicians.

That's a really BIG number. Won't it heart other Uber drivers?
Uber has about 2,500 drivers registered in Columbus, according to the city’s license division. By the end of next year, the company plans to hire 3,000 more to meet growing demand for the service, said James Ondrey, general manager for Uber in Ohio.

Be careful out there

Please be careful while driving for Uber. Don't display Uber sign until the last moment. Don't automatically assume that people (and cops) will take your side. They already see Uber as a money giant and don't realize that you are a little guy working to feed a family.
Videos of unionized and municipally-licensed taxi drivers harassing and intimidating Uber drivers and their customers in large Canadian cities are surfacing online.

You are not an employee

Unfortunately you are not an employee, which means you don't get any benefits from Uber, you are an independent contractor.

Use that. Treat this gig as a business. Find all tax deductions available to businesses and apply them at the 'tax time'. Get a real CPA who knows small business issues.

But first read that:

For many workers, contractor status isn’t a choice—it’s the cost of having a job at all.

How many drivers does Uber have

This post title comes from Google search. I wanted to know how many other Uber drivers are in the US and Google right away returned with this heading. So, I am not the first person who wants to know that.

Here are Google results:

Uber’s active driver base has grown from basically zero in mid-2012 to over 160,000 at the end of 2014.
